The Powell Arms in Birchington has re-opened after a refurbishment with new owners Dhvani Patel and Byan Hayter. Its quality decor is much similar to what was there previously and is of a contemporary feel mixed with the more traditional. Shivering Sands Brewery, Manston

Shivering Sands Brewery was formed in December 2019 by Margate resident Gary Gould, and like many small and medium sized enterprises it is family run business. Based in a newly built business park near Manston Airport which they moved into in March 2020, its start unfortunately coincided with the challenges of the Covid19 outbreak.

“Well, we’re not exactly booming but we’re doing OK. The pool table took too much space – so it’s covered up as we need the area for seats – then everyone decided they need to play pool. Held at the end of June 2020 and hosted on CAMRA’s virtual pub, the Red (on)Lion, this was one of the many CAMRA video conferencing events that have attracted on-line participants from across the country. The beers to be sampled could be bought in advance by participants from CAMRA or direct from the brewers.
