Bierwärmer mit Halter - An interesting device at The Pub, Ramsgate
One might easily think this contraption is for measuring a dram of scotch, or maybe used in certain cocktail making processes, but it is neither of these and is actually beer related.
It is a beer warmer and is filled with hot water. So, if you think some of the more subtle flavours of a beer or cider are not so accessible due to low serving temperature, perhaps more likely in craft beers that tend to be served at lower temperatures anyway, then this might be a solution. Although one can always just wait a few minutes or stack your beers up so when you’ve finished your first one the second is now not so chilly. As you see it hangs inside the glass when in use and is removed to its holder on your table at an appropriate moment decided by the drinker.
The concept of this beer warmer originates in Germany, where in fact Nicola Werner, the owner of The Pub, Ramsgate, is from. Incidentally The Pub’s glassware does include special two pint marked steins.
At the time of writing the craft beers available on draught at the Pub Ramsgate were;
- Fierce Beer, Fierce Berry, 4.6% ABV
- Tonbridge Brewery, Velvet Raven, 5.2% ABV
Also available three cask beers, and a fair selection of canned craft beers.
